At Box, we rely on open source software and the strong community that makes it possible, which is why we are committed to giving back to the community as much as possible. We’re proud to announce our involvement in a new open source group, Talk Openly, Develop Openly (TODO), that is committed to helping companies develop a common set of tools and streamlined processes for releasing open source software.

We’re also excited to host our first ever Box Open Source Open House on September 23rd here at Box HQ. The open house will feature talks from Facebook’s Paul Tarjan on HHVM and Box’s Matt Basta on a new open source project (more on that soon.) Arista, Facebook, HBase, LinkedIn, Netflix, NodeJS, and Twitter will also be on hand to showcase their open source projects and collaborate with attendees.

Nearly six months ago, we announced Box Open Source and introduced 20 new open source projects. Since then, Box has continued to push high-quality code that’s configurable, extensible, tested and well-documented. Our projects span applications like unit testing, systems & database monitoring, and HTML5 rendering. And we’re staring to see some strong traction – our Anemometer project, a Box SQL slow query monitor, has collected 436 stars on GitHub. Flaky, a Python nose plugin to automatically retry flaky tests, now averages over 10,000 downloads per month.

Open source software exists and thrives because of the people that support it and our Open Source Open House is an opportunity to get together and learn from the open source community around us. Registration is open! We hope to see you there.
